Strategic Planning Advisory

Strategy built to be executed, not shelved.

Most strategic plans are polished documents built on generic frameworks—delivered to leadership teams who had no hand in shaping them. The plan belongs to the consultants, not the organization.

Strategy without execution is a wish. Execution without strategy is noise

Takoma reorients every engagement around one outcome: a plan your team understands, owns, and is positioned to execute—complete with measurable milestones, clear accountability, and a built-in mechanism for course correction.

What We Deliver

Strategic Diagnostic

An unvarnished assessment of competitive position, operational capacity, financial health, and leadership alignment.

Strategic Framework

Three-to-five-year objectives, priorities, and explicit trade-offs, debated and owned by your leadership team in the room.

Implementation Roadmap

A prioritized execution plan with quarterly milestones, named owners, and a confirmed first 30-day action for every initiative.

Performance Framework

Leading and lagging indicators, a review cadence, and decision rules for when a performance gap requires a strategic response.

Capability Transfer

An Internal Strategy Review Guide and a trained internal facilitator, so your team runs future reviews without ongoing consultant dependency.

The Takoma Strategic Progression

The global advisory market has a structural blind spot in the Middle East, East Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The firms with the deepest pockets have the shallowest regional roots. Firms with real regional roots rarely operate at the strategic altitude their clients need. The result is advice that is either rigorous but contextually hollow, or contextually rich but commercially unscalable.

Takoma International was built to close that gap — and to make it permanent.

We are an elite advisory firm organized around one conviction: the Gulf, the Red Sea corridor, the Horn of Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa do not constitute a subset of emerging markets to be managed by a generalist desk in London or New York. Together, they form a distinct strategic theatre — one shaped by its own power structures, institutional logics, and decision-making cultures — and one that demands dedicated, insider-level expertise to navigate with any credibility.

We bring that expertise with the intellectual rigor of a global firm and the operational agility of a boutique. We do not fly in and fly out. We do not recycle frameworks built for Frankfurt and apply them to Khartoum. We operate from the inside of these environments — and that distinction defines everything we produce.

Our progression

A five-dimension diagnostic: 15–25 structured interviews, five years of data analysis, and benchmarking against three to five comparable organizations.

A two-day workshop where we arrive not with a pre-written strategy, but with the critical questions your organization must answer.

An implementation architecture translating the Framework into quarterly and annual milestones, plus a pre-mortem identifying failure modes before they occur.

A half-day session assigning every initiative to a named owner with a confirmed first action and a scheduled 90-day check-in.
The engagement ends when implementation begins—not when the report is printed.

Engagement structures

Strategic Sprint (4–6 weeks) A condensed Diagnostic, Framework, and 12-month Roadmap; clear direction for your Board or investors.
Strategic Partnership (10–14 weeks, flagship)  The complete Progression: Diagnostic, Workshop, Framework, Roadmap, Performance Framework, and Capability Transfer.
Strategic Advisory Retainer (12+ months) for organizations needing continuous recalibration, with quarterly reviews, monthly check-ins, and on-call senior access.

Where do we stand apart

  • Others use generic frameworks and deliver a strategy built for you. Takoma facilitates your leadership team in building the strategy themselves—so the plan belongs to the organization that must execute it.
  • Others deliver a report and disengage. Takoma does not complete an engagement until every initiative has a named owner and a 90-day follow-up scheduled.
  • Others deploy junior analysts managed remotely. The senior advisor you meet at proposal leads your engagement throughout. You pay for expertise, not headcount.

Who this is for

  • Growth-stage and founder-led enterprises scaling faster than their infrastructure
  • Government ministries and public agencies need plans that are technically sound and politically credible
  • NGOs, INGOs, and multilateral agencies needing strategies that satisfy institutional donors
  • Family-owned and generational businesses navigating succession with an advisor free of predetermined templates

Who this is for

Growth-stage and founder-led enterprises.

You are scaling faster than your infrastructure. You need a strategy that resolves the trade-offs growth forces — not a framework designed for a different company in a different market. Takoma builds the strategic infrastructure your next phase demands, without slowing the momentum that got you here.

Government ministries and public agencies.

Your plan must satisfy multiple stakeholders, comply with governance requirements, and deliver measurable public value within constrained budgets and political cycles. Generic private sector frameworks will not serve you. Takoma designs plans that are technically sound, politically credible, and built to survive full public scrutiny.

NGOs, INGOs, and multilateral agencies.

You need a strategy that honors your mission and demonstrates measurable impact to institutional donors — in language your Board will approve, and your programme teams will follow. Takoma builds strategies that serve the mission while constructing the organizational resilience to deliver it.

Family-owned and generational businesses.

Succession, professionalization, and generational transfer require an advisor you can be honest with — not a consultant with a predetermined template. Takoma serves as a trusted strategic partner through the transitions that define a family business, with the discretion those moments require.

How to Engage

Every engagement begins with a 90-minute Strategic Conversation at no charge. A Principal Advisor will identify your three most significant strategic gaps and determine whether a formal engagement is the right next step. No sales representative. No template pitch. A structured conversation with someone who has done this before.

Following that session, we provide a fixed-price proposal within five business days — specifying scope, team composition, timeline, milestones, and precise deliverables. No contingent pricing. No open-ended scope.
Takoma accepts a limited number of strategic planning engagements each quarter to maintain the analytical depth and senior-to-client ratio our methodology requires.
